“I Am Enough”
by Alphabet Rockers ft. The Singing Bois
2019
GRAMMY®-NOMINATED: BEST CHILDREN’S ALBUM 2020
This song was a collaboration between Alphabet Rockers and my ensemble, The Singing Bois. Alphabet Rockers is a Grammy-winning San Francisco Bay Area-based duo that creates social justice themed hip hop for children. The group invited The Singing Bois to co-write and record a song for their album, The Love, which was focused on queer, trans, and non-binary stories.
The three vocalists from The Singing Bois (myself, Terezia Orosz, and Jade Way) wrote verses that highlighted our experiences as gender queer people and artists. We recorded vocals for the song alongside Alphabet Rockers, as well as additional material for the album’s spoken interludes.
The Singing Bois also received a Fresh Works commission from Fresh Meat Productions that supported the creation of this and a second original song, “I Forgive Myself” (written by Terezia Orosz and produced by myself). We performed both songs live in the 2019 Fresh Meat festival, a nationally recognized showcase for queer and trans artists now in its 23rd year.
